Alexa Pierce

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Alexa Pierce began dancing at the age of four. In 2015, she was introduced to David Martinez Coro and Vanessa Haidar, both formerly of the National Ballet of Cuba, under whom she received the majority of her training.

Throughout her training, Pierce attended summer intensives at Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, Boston Ballet, Kirov Academy of Ballet, and Bolshoi Ballet Academy. She competed at YAGP Semi-Finals in Pittsburgh in 2019, where she placed 2nd in Senior Classical and Top 12 in Senior Contemporary. In 2021, she competed at YAGP Semi-Finals in Philadelphia, placing 2nd in both Senior Classical and Contemporary. She then had the honor of advancing to YAGP Finals in Tampa, Florida. That same year, she placed 2nd in both Senior Classical and Contemporary at Universal Ballet Competition in Pittsburgh. She was also awarded 1st Place Regional Senior
High Score Soloist at NYCDA Pittsburgh and received the Regional Outstanding Dancer award.

Shortly afterward, she faced a major setback when she suffered a serious injury to both of her feet. After extensive treatment and two surgeries, she spent two and a half years recovering before returning to ballet. The experience challenged her physically and mentally, but through faith and perseverance, she found the strength to continue pursuing the career she had dreamed of.

Upon her return in 2024, Pierce trained at West Point Ballet under the direction of Cynthia Castillo and Damien Martinez Coro. After questioning whether a professional career was still possible, she was grateful to receive an apprenticeship with Canyon Concert Ballet for the 2025/26 season. That opportunity ultimately led her to Utah Metropolitan Ballet.

The challenges she has faced have become a blessing, teaching her resilience, gratitude, and a deeper appreciation for the opportunity to pursue something she loves. Outside of ballet, she enjoys crocheting, painting, baking, spending time outdoors, and making memories with the people she loves.

Pierce is incredibly grateful and excited to be a part of Utah Metropolitan Ballet and looks forward to the upcoming season!
